Il testo è un adattamento di un brano del poeta greco Archiloco, il quale sosteneva provocatoriamente che rimanere vivo fosse molto più importante che mantenere il proprio onore (nell’antica Grecia tornare da una battaglia senza scudo era l’onta peggiore per un soldato).
